My third visit to Afghanistan
was for another trial, this time in November. It was definitely colder
this time around; snow was on top of the Hindu Kush, and the uninsulated
B-huts were having trouble keeping up with the cold at night This
time I got to stay for two weeks, but it wasn't the longest visit I had.

day ration, is always a good stopover |
My last visit
was in December 2005, for December 2005. Colder this time, and a
bit more dangerous; while at a small outpost near the Pakistan border,
we were rocketed, then couldn't get out for three days because all the
choppers were full. We finally got out in one piece. The month
got better; nothing quite like Christmas in Afghanistan, or getting snowed
in (it took me two days to get out). The best part was being able
to spend both Christmas and New Year's Eve with Bailey Brown and
Pam Perkey Perillo. Good times.
