Scenic Iraq

Kuwait 1 - Kuwait 2 - Iraq - Afghanistan 1 - Afghanistan 2

Howdy there, and welcome to my deployment page.  I will be posting photos from time to time, but due to operational security concerns, they won't show much, nor will I specify where they were taken other than the country.  Once enough time has elapsed, I may fill in some more details, but not now, and not any time soon.

Tallil

I had the opportunity to spend about a week in Tallil, a base in  southern Iraq.  I was there interviewing witnesses for a case that ultimately resulted in an acquittal, so, overall a valuable trip.  The base has a very wide security perimeter, and it includes the city of UR, the birthplace of Abraham.  I was very glad to see such a historic site, as most of what I experienced downrange was solely in transit or on a base.  (Not much of a tourism industry.)  So, touring the ruins of UR, including the zigurrat, was a nice change of pace.  Even if our tour guide (and his group) were armed.  I've seldom been around such history; the ziggurat is approximately 4,000 years old.  It's been restored, sure, but most of it is original.
