Arizona Canyons

Arizona is known as the "Grand Canyon State."  The Grand Canyon is an awe-inspiring spectacle, and it it is hard to grasp the scope of this natral wonder until you actually get to the edge and look down.  But there are other canyons in Arizona besides the Grand Canyon that are equally as beautiful but for other reasons.  Here, the Grand Canyon shares its fame.

This page is limited to the canyon face of Arizona.  Photos of Arizona ghost towns, deserts, waterfalls, and lush mountain forests can be found by selecting other categories on my index page.

Aravaipa Canyon

This wilderness area is located northeast of Tucson; Aravaipa Creek feeds into the San Pedro River.  It is hard to appreciate the lushness of this canyon until you have spent enough time in Arizona.  I was continually fascinated by the extreme environments in the canyon; as I hiked beside cottonwoods and green bushes, stepping through knee-deep water, I could look up at the canyon wall beside me and see saguaro and other cacti growing out of the dry, barren rock 30 feet above my head.  Update: New photos added below from my June 2003 trips.  More on my page of people.

The Grand Canyon

In July 2002, my father and I spend the Independence Day holiday on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and in other locations around Flagstaff.  Here's some of what we saw.
